I think that telling the stories about the problem of the 13th Step is very important. Many people identify AA as a place to go and pick up vulnerable women.

The 13th Step was first portrayed in film in the 2000 comedy movie What Planet are You from?  staring Garry Shandling as Harold Anderson, an alien sent to earth to find a mate to have sex with and bring her back to the home group at the planet. Once on the planet he works at a bank and is told by a "playboy" type character named Perry Gordon (played by Greg Kinnear) that Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are the place to go to pick up women because they are very vulnerable and very easy to pick up. They go to an AA meeting and he meets a prospect called Susan (played by Annette Bening) and easily picks her up in her time of need. The reality of the show is even made a little more convincing when Susan brings Harold back to her apartment and they even discuss her search for a higher power. While this movie is a comedy, there really isn't anything funny about going to an AA meeting to pick up a girlfriend or boyfriend to have sex with.

A more recent portrayal of the 13th Step in AA was shown on the Criminal Minds TV show in episode 13 season 6 entitled The Thirteenth Step first aired in Jan, 2011, during this episode a young couple is portrayed that made the 13th step with each other and ended up going on a killing spree because of Steps 4, 5 and 9 of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Unfortunately they didn't quite follow the part about making amends in Step 9, "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others" and injured many people.
